A problem parents saw in school bus routes as they were originally planned for this school year has been remedied, Greene County school superintendent Tim Christensen reported to the school board at the September meeting.
During the open forum of the board’s August meeting, which happened to fall on the first day of school, two different parents told of their children getting on the bus at 6:30 in the morning, making their school days longer than a lot of adults’ work days.
Christensen said route changes were implemented on Monday, Sept. 15. “The routes are still evolving a little bit, but for the most part, it’s been positive,” he said.
The first pick up is now at 6:55 or 7 am, he said. The elementary school serves as a hub in the transportation system. Wait time there was shortened for some students, and others go directly from Scranton to Grand Junction, bypassing Jefferson all together. The district had reduced the number of routes by two in the first plan; the recent change added back in two “half routes” to reduce ride time.
“I think it was good that parents came last month and expressed their concerns,” Christensen said. “We looked at it again. I had no problem doing that, and we made some adjustments.”
